1. Introduction to the Institute
The Global Value Chain Research Institute (GVCRI) was established in May 2015 at the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) under a cooperation agreement between China’s Ministry of Commerce and UIBE. As the world’s first research institution dedicated to global value chains (GVCs) across economics, management, and statistics, GVCRI integrates top-tier global scholars and resources to build an interdisciplinary platform for academic research and exchange.
Faculty: 11 full-time researchers, 15 jointly appointed researchers, and 6 overseas distinguished professors.
100% hold doctoral degrees, with 90% obtaining PhDs abroad.
Program Launch: Began admitting doctoral students in 2018 under three disciplines: Applied Economics, Business Administration, and Statistics.
2. Program Highlights
Interdisciplinary Focus: Combines Applied Economics, Business Administration, and Statistics, awarding a PhD in Global Value Chains under Applied Economics.
International Collaboration: Partners with Stanford, Duke, Columbia, and George Mason Universities, as well as WTO, OECD, World Bank, and Asian Development Bank for research, exchanges, and training.

Quota: 3 full-time PhD students (must transfer personnel files to UIBE; no applicants with undergraduate-equivalent qualifications accepted).
