From May 28 to June 2, 2024, Professor Xiaopeng Yin, Dean of the Global Value Chain Research Institute at the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE), Associate Researcher Jing Zhao, and Dual-appointed Researcher Professor Quanrun Chen visited France and Switzerland. They held discussions with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the World Trade Organization (WTO), the World Economic Forum (WEF), and the LEDECO Geneva Consulting Center on cooperation matters related to the next edition of the Global Value Chain Development Report 2025 (hereinafter referred to as Report 2025), the UIBEGVC database, training activities, and talent cultivation for international organizations. Multiple cooperation intentions were reached, and the visit yielded fruitful outcomes.
The research institute team held talks with Vasiliki Mavroeidi, an economist from the Economic Transformation and Development Division of the OECD Development Centre, and her team. The two parties reached a cooperation agreement on Report 2025 and will collaborate on research topics such as global value chains in agriculture and food, as well as artificial intelligence and global value chains. Additionally, Vasiliki Mavroeidi invited the research institute team to attend the OECD Global Value Chain Summit scheduled for July and November, hoping that the team would share research findings and valuable experiences on value chains in China and Asia, providing important references for other developing countries to better integrate into global value chains.

The research institute team also met with Marion Jansen, Director of the OECD Trade and Agriculture Directorate, and John Drummond, Director of the Trade Policy Division, along with their teams. The two parties reached a cooperation agreement on Report 2025 and will collaborate on research topics such as the latest trends in global and regional value chains, how foreign direct investment (FDI) affects the inclusivity of value chains, and how trade policies influence value chain restructuring.
The research institute team held discussions with Ralph Ossa, Chief Economist of the WTO, and statistician Christophe Degain. The WTO has been deeply involved in the Global Value Chain Development Report and is a long-term close partner of the research institute. During this meeting, Ralph Ossa and Christophe Degain stated that the WTO would continue to participate in Report 2025, and the two parties will collaborate on research topics such as how national industrial policies affect global value chain restructuring. Furthermore, the two sides will cooperate on WTO training programs and the research institute’s Global Value Chain Workshop. By jointly developing public goods and sharing research and human resources, they will complement each other’s strengths and achieve mutual benefits.

The research institute team met with Sean Doherty, Head of the International Trade and Investment Division at the WEF, and his team. The two parties reached a cooperation agreement on Report 2025 and will collaborate on areas such as anonymous enterprise surveys and interviews. In light of current changes in the international landscape, such as energy transition and technological advancements, enterprise surveys will help observe the responses of different types of enterprises and propose relevant policy recommendations to reduce uncertainties faced by enterprises, improve efficiency, and promote inclusive development.
